ABOUT

MotherArt: Revisited paying homage to the original Mother Art through inaugural exhibition of clothing line at CC’s Art Garage in Bridgeport, Chicago, IL

In the 1970s, a group of women artists created Mother Art.  The collective used it as a platform to draw attention to the social and political issues that mothers face. Yet even today, these issues continue to be relevant to new generations of mothers.

During the summer of 2017, a group of artists from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Low-Residency MFA program came together to form Mother Art: Revisited. MotherArt: Revisited is a Chicago-based collective that spreads its roots throughout the North American continent, and is setting precedents in the ways mother artists are collaborating and working remotely to create art that is unique, educational and inspiring. We strive to address the sociopolitical issues that mothers face today. We also aim to interrupt and intervene through installations, exhibition, and written work.
